New. My best friend made me watch showed me "Rose" and I've been hooked ever since -- which was just a few months ago :)
The only Classic I've watched is "City of Death" and I didn't get it. I'm not sure if it was just that ep, that it was Four, or the mood I was in, but I'm not giving up on watching Classic Who. Apparently my mom is an Old School fan.
Yes well old school Who is different from new, and even within the old it varies from Doctor to Doctor, considering the scope of years the show's been on and different producers, etc. Tom Baker played the Doctor the longest so that ads another layer to the problem you had with "City of Death", which is a good serial and one of my faves. But I saw it in order on PBS way back when.
Don't give up on it. Try going back to The Key to Time series, with Romana I, and move forward from there. It might help with making the characterizations make sense. Have fun!
